The Filtrete MPR 1500 is a MERV 13 rated 1-inch deep pleated filter manufactured by 3M. The 20″x25″x1 version we tested contained 62 pleats. This is a solid choice if your furnace (or central AC/heat pump) can only support a 1-inch deep filter, as long as your HVAC system has some available static pressure to spare.

With a permeability score of 7.8 (higher means better), the Filtrete MPR 1500 furnace filter offers a relatively high pressure-delta. As mentioned on other reviews, a higher pressure delta would put more strain on your furnace (or AC) blower fan, leading to higher consumption of energy and would potentially shorten the life of your equipment compared to filters with a higher permeability score. Since this is a 1-inch deep filter, the dust holding capacity of the MPR 1500 can be lower than that of deeper filters, which means more frequent filter replacements.

The filtration performance of the Filtrete MPR 1500 filter at the sub-micron level is less-than-OK (61.4% @ 0.3-1µm) and quite good at the 1-3µm level (85.6%). The performance of this filter at the 3-10µm level is excellent (95.4%), however, Fltest.org does not incorporate this category into the weight of our scores.
